Prepare for Success – Florida Bar Exam
When I decided to take the Florida Bar Exam, I did not know where to start. I had been out of law school for quite some time and had already taken and passed the New York State Bar Exam, but that was not easy for me.
I decided to give the Florida Bar Exam a practice run and take it without adequately preparing. I do not recommend this. I would only take the exam if you have the time to adequately prepare for it. Eventually, understanding the exam’s format and the tested subjects was critical to my success; that is, when I decided to dedicate the effort required to obtain a passing score.
The summer I gave the exam the test run, I only studied the MBE multi-state materials (and haphazardly at best–again, please don’t do this!) Don’t ask me why I thought I had a chance of passing without studying any Florida law; I may have thought this because Florida allows you to use your score from one portion of the exam to essentially pad the score of another portion of the exam (this is called passing with the Overall Method). Please refer to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners website for more information on this. In any event, I can say that taking the exam without studying and practicing all parts of the exam is a horrible idea!
Coming from out-of-state, the Florida Bar Exam is daunting. There are few resources on the actual Florida portion of the exam, which makes the task even harder. I scoured the internet for resources and stumbled upon Aplus eBooks. At first glance, I realized that this website had a personalized touch and I immediately realized that the content was reliable and prepared by people who knew the ins and outs of the Florida Bar Exam.
In particular, when I got serious about the exam, I spent a lot of time looking at Aplus eBooks’ content as it related to the Florida portion of the bar exam. Understanding the tested content and the exam format is paramount to developing a plan of attack.
The Florida portion of the bar exam includes multiple-choice questions and essays. As I said, there are few resources out there specifically tailored to Florida law. Aplus eBooks, however, has Workbooks, which I noticed contained questions on the black letter Florida law. These Workbooks helped me to adequately prepare for the Florida Bar Exam.
I also noticed that there are private contents on Aplus eBooks’ website which is tailored specifically to the Florida multiple-choice and essay questions. I cannot stress enough how valuable the resources on Aplus eBooks are for helping you feel at ease with the background and logistics information regarding the Florida Bar Exam, including what is tested, study plans, exam day information, and practice questions.
F or the essays, my view was that I needed to understand the law and practice. Therefore, I knew I had to spend a lot of time studying the outlines. I used Themis for this and I was happy with the course and the amount of study questions. Themis also has a solid bank of Florida multiple-choice questions, which, supplemented with the resources from Aplus eBooks, I knew I had a good foundation.
Next, I needed to develop a plan of attack. I was working when I got serious about studying. I knew I needed a schedule, so I started waking at 5am, studying for two hours before work, and then studying for three to five hours after work. I recommend more time, but I just wanted to mention this, because you can take and pass without the recommended time, if you remain dedicated and stick to your plan.
As far as the specifics, I made sure my daily studying included some sort of practice. Practice practice practice was my motto. I reviewed my outlines and then did some sort of practice testing of my knowledge of the Florida law, whether it was Florida multiple-choice questions, Aplus eBooks’ Workbook Questions, or essay questions. I also read and studied the multi-state law and took practice MBE questions.
I was unable to study everything that I wanted to, but I did stick to my plan and I was successful. Even on exam day, I did not think the first day went great, but I tried hard to maintain my mental toughness. I knew that not giving up and maintaining my focus was important. Therefore, I treated every moment as an opportunity to pass the exam.
Also as an aside, during my studies, I also tended to my health by working-out and eating healthy. I was not the guy caged in his apartment ordering pizza and soda and studying around the clock. I made time for myself to remain physically fit and also tended to my spiritual needs.
I’ll end by saying that I think anyone has the ability to pass the Florida Bar Exam. However, I think it is extremely important to get a “lay of the land” first, and Aplus eBooks’ ability to help one understand the nuances of the Florida Bar Exam is unmatched by any other resource that I found.
